Expression Profile in various stages of gametogenesis correlates with the alu distribution pattern in human genome

Alu elements are the most abundant transposable elements in human, which comprise 11% of the total genomic DNA and propagate by copying themselves within the genome transposing to another region. Depending on where these DNA segments land within a genome, inserted copies could have major influence directly either on the expressed phenotype, functions or facilitate other repeat-induced genomic changes. Based on the nature as potent broad-spectrum mutators, they have been proposed to be major players in shaping the primate genome [5]. Therefore, profound knowledge on distribution of Alu elements would be essential for a comprehensive understanding of the evolutionary mechanisms that change genomes over time. However, there is still no consensus on the mechanisms making up the current distribution patterns of Alu elements observed, as they are syntheses of dynamic biological processes operating at various spatial and temporal scales in cell nucleus. The prime focus of this study is to elucidate the factors that determine the positions of transposition.
